Known as The Legacy, Blare Rogers has been wrestling
professionally since 1992. He broke into the sport as part of a Tag Team with his
brother Bobby Rogers. In his very first match Blare and Bobby won the Florida
Wrestling Association Tag Team titles by defeating The New Sensations, Micheal P.
Thunderwolf and the Falcon. Soon after the duo began to unify all tag titles in the
area, garnering recognition from the Tropical Wrestling Association and Atlantic Wrestling
Council to name a few. The two seemed unstoppable in the ring, and outside
maintained a very close relationship with "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers.
Although neither will admit whether or not there is real blood relation, none the less
Buddy was a big part of their careers. Teaching them both the psychology and
attitude you need in this great sport. With Buddy's teaching it seemed as though
nothing would stand in they're way.
The Rogers Brothers were on top of the world, defending the tag team
titles under the tutelage of Nature Boy Buddy Rogers. They took on all comers and gained
more and more experience along the way.
Then tragedy struck. In June of 1992 Buddy Rogers passed
away. This came as huge shock not only to the brothers but to the entire
world. Up until that point Buddy had remained in perfect physical condition.
In fact just 2 years earlier Buddy, at the age of 69 came to the rescue of a waitress who
was being assaulted by a belligerent young man who obviously did not know what he was
getting himself into, till he found his head shoved in the sink. Even at the age of
71 Buddy had been scheduled to wrestle on two different occasions in 1992. The first
being against Buddy Landell, a Battle of the Natureboys which was to take place in
Philadelphia, PA. Unfortunately the company ceased operations just one week prior to
the sold out event. Another return to the ring was supposed to have taken place July
4th, 1992 against Dory Funk Jr. In Miami Beach, FL, which would have
commemorated his 53 anniversary of his pro debut. Either of these events would have
marked Buddys seventh decade of competition in the ring. The July 4th event
would also he seen the first in ring appearance of Buddy, Bobby, and Blare Rogers on the
same card.
After Buddys death, the brothers went into
turmoil. On July 4th in Miami Beach Florida, they lost the tag team titles,
ironically to the father and son team of Chief White Eagle and Michael P.
Thunderwolf. After that night Bobby and Blare went there separate ways, and did not
compete as a tag team for over a year. Blare floundered in mid card status. While Bobby
went on to become the Unified Light Heavyweight Champion, Encompassing Herb Abrams
Universal Wrestling Federation, Independent Pro Wrestling Association, Sunshine Wrestling
Federation and many others. Even though they were not twins the two looked so much alike
that Blare would help Bobby hold onto his championship by switching places with him in the
middle of title defenses. In doing so, Blare soon became the #1
contender. Bobby thought this would guarantee his title reign would never end.
He made light of Blares #1 contender status. Blare shocked Bobby by accepting
the title shot and defeated him for the belt that very night. The two then engaged
in a bitter feud that has not been completely resolved even to this day.
It culminated with Bobby falling from a 20 foot balcony sending him to Jackson Memorial
Hospital with 3 compressed vertebrae. Blare had to watch as his brother fell to the hard
floor his clenched fists turning to a reach as Bobby fell from his grasp. Blare realized
it had gone too far.
Just a few weeks later Bobby already back in action was being
brutally attacked in the ring by the James Gang. Blare could take no more and
stormed the ring to rescue his brother. This led to a partial reconciliation of the
Rogers Brothers who quickly became known to the fans as Double Trouble. It even led to
more Rogers tag team gold, but it was quite apparent things would never be the same again.
They both had changed, physically and mentally. Bobby followed the path of many of
todays generation of wrestlers with no regard for life, limb or
tradition. While Blare went back to his roots and has been very successful as
a result. Thus proving on his own to be a legacy to the golden age of wrestling.
Blare went on to win the Bahamas Heavyweight Title and reigned as champion
for over a year. He successfully defended that title throughout the Caribbean, using
a combination of mat techniques from yesterday and today along with the ring and life
psychology he learned from Nature Boy Buddy Rogers.
When asked about his goals, Blare said "If I am ever
able to be even just 1/8th the man, not just the wrestler, the MAN that Buddy Rogers was,
then I am a success."
Current Update
After being sidelined by a knee injury in 1998,
Blare has stayed an active part of wrestling sharing his knowledge inside and
out of the ring in his role as manager. Blare managed the group
known as Animal House to a total monopoly of the Future of
Wrestling. Blare along with Chris Charger, Jeff Roth and Anthony
Michaels later formed FourPlay. After the
collapse of the FOW the four have gone their separate ways. Blare
Rogers is now managing a group known as The Firm in Sunray Pro
Wrestling. The Firm consists of The Market Crashers, Sean Allen and Ryan
'Payne' O'Reilly
